Supporting your child to reach their potential

I’m here to help your child thrive

If your child is struggling in school, it’s not necessarily a reflection of their intelligence and capability. More often than not, it’s because the way information is taught in a traditional classroom just doesn’t match how their brain naturally learns. Add in the distractions of a busy classroom, the pressure to keep up with peers, and overwhelmed teachers — and it’s easy to see why some kids start to fall behind.

As a parent, watching this happen can be heartbreaking. But here’s the good news: with the right kind of support, things can change.

I work one-on-one with all ages of students, offering personalized tutoring that’s tailored to how they learn best — whether they’re visual, auditory, or hands-on learners, or a unique combination. I also consider each child’s personality and strengths, so the learning feels natural and engaging, not frustrating or forced.

For literacy, I focus on the five key building blocks: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. But I also go a step further — I help students think critically, make meaningful connections, and build real confidence in their ability to understand, process, and express ideas.

All tutoring sessions take place over Zoom, so your child can learn in the comfort of home — no extra driving, no added stress. More importantly, they’ll be in a supportive, low-pressure space where it’s safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and flourish.

With compassionate and consistent guidance, I help students strengthen their academic skills and begin to see themselves in a whole new light: as capable, curious, and confident learners. That shift in mindset can make all the difference — not just in school, but for life.

Steps to success

1. Introduction

We begin with a free 20 minute introductory call. This is your chance to tell me all about your child — their academic strengths and struggles, personality, learning style, and any feedback you've received from their teachers. I want to get the full picture so we can build the right support plan from the start.

2. Get to know you

Next, I spend a bit of time with your child in a relaxed, friendly chat. We talk about what they feel confident about, what they find challenging, and how they feel about learning overall. This isn’t a test, just a low-pressure conversation to help them feel safe, supported, and ready to grow. It also helps plant the first seeds of success!

3. Assessment

Using insights from both you and your child, I create a customized assessment to go through on our first session together. This enables me to identify key areas where support is needed. Then, I share a summary of the findings along with a tutoring plan designed specifically for your child and their individual needs.

4. Let’s begin

Tutoring sessions are 40 minutes and we use short, structured segments within each session. Just like exercising a muscle, learning and focus build with repetition and consistency over time. Brief breaks help your child stay energized and attentive.

I share my video screen during the session so we can work through exercises or texts together. There’s no pre-work or homework — life is busy enough!

If we’re working on something that would benefit from being reinforced at home, I follow up with a quick call and explanation. I send periodical progress reports highlighting achievements and any useful insights.

5. Set the stage

To make the most of our time:

Make sure Zoom is installed on the device your child will be using. I send the session link via email ahead of time.

Have your child ready and settled a few minutes before our session begins. A calm start helps set the tone for focused learning.

Headphones are a great way to minimize environmental distractions and keep your child engaged.

To ensure ongoing progress and maintain consistency, a minimum of one session a week is recommended.

6. Home support

As your child begins to shift from “I can’t” to “I can,” your support at home is key. The language you use can make a big difference.  Instead of saying, “No, that’s not right,” which reinforces their perception of failure, try:

“I love the way you’re thinking! What else could it be?”

Or if their answer feels unclear:

“Can you tell me a little bit more, so I can understand your thinking?”

These small changes build confidence and reinforce the idea that your child is a capable, growing learner.

About me

As a seasoned educator with a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in Early Childhood Education and many years of rich experience, I discovered early on that my true calling was helping students achieve academic success — and, more importantly, believe in their ability to succeed. My classroom became a nurturing and supportive haven where students transformed into confident, capable learners.

Word quickly spread, and soon parents from other classes and grade levels began reaching out to ask me to tutor their children. The results spoke for themselves with noticeable academic improvement, increased self-esteem, and a renewed enthusiasm for learning. As demand grew, I made the rewarding decision to transition from classroom teaching to private tutoring, launching a business focused on personalized instruction and empowering students to take ownership of their learning journeys.

My unique approach is rooted in shifting the narrative a child holds about themselves. Many students come to me believing they “can’t.” But with patience, individualized strategies, and consistent encouragement, I help them rewrite that story and discover what they’re truly capable of. Tutoring changes lives, and I feel deeply honored to be part of each student's transformation.

I have been an avid traveler since the age of 14, and have enjoyed exploring different countries and immersing myself in diverse cultures around the world. Originally from the UK, I’ve lived in both the UK and the USA, and now enjoy a sunny, fulfilling life in the beautiful Algarve, Portugal, where I share my days with my two wonderful dogs. I am actively involved in animal rescue and have a passion for savoring global cuisines. In this picturesque part of the world, I have learned to embrace the art of the siesta and the joy of a slower, simpler lifestyle.

I commend you for being a dedicated advocate for your child, and for actively seeking resources to support their growth and success.

Warmly, Caroline
